Chiropractic Services

Integrative therapies such as Chiropractics and Acupuncture have become common veterinary tools to help maintain our patients health and peak performance.  Dr. Brown has gone through extensive training in veterinary chiropractic. She studied at Options for Animals in Wellsville, Kansas, and completed her training in February of 2014. Dr. Brown is a member of the International Veterinary Chiropractic Assocation (IVCA). While the most common reason for requesting chiropractic is for back pain, it can be used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. A chiropractic exam involves taking the horse’s joints through their range of motion. If decreased motion is felt, an adjustment is applied to help improve the mobility of the joint. A typical chiropractic exam and treatment can take from 20-40 minutes, depending on the horse. It is best if the horse is not ridden the day following the adjustment, but they can be turned out.

Acupuncture Services

In 2015, Dr. Brown became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (CVA) through the Chi Institute in Reddick, Florida. She completed her basic course in 2014 and her advanced training at the start of 2015.  Acupuncture has been proven to be effective for pain relief, as well as an integrative therapy that works well with traditional medicine to treat many other conditions. An acupuncture session includes a “scan” to localize regions of discomfort in the horse. Techniques used for treatment depend on the horse and the condition to be treated, but include dry needling, electro-acupuncture, hemo-acupuncture, and aqua-acupuncture. A typical session can take from 30 minutes to an hour. It is best if the horse is not ridden the day after the treatment, but they can be turned out.
